In July 2008, the City of Sherwood bought The Greens at North Hills, previously known as North Hills Country Club, thus keeping this beautiful green space inside the City of Sherwood. The golf course was built in 1926 and is the only Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed course in the state of Arkansas.

The course had sat closed and empty for about two years. The greens were taken over by native grasses, the fairways could have had hay cut on them, and the clubhouse was outdated and needed repair. The Parks Department went to work mowing and cleaning. Contractors were brought into the club house to make the necessary repairs to get it ready for rentals. In December 2009 the banquet hall was opened for rental. Weddings, retirement parties, and class reunions, just to mention a few, were held there in the first few weeks of operation.

In 2009 Mandel Brockinton was hired as the Golf Course Superintendent. He was raised in Sherwood and began his golf career at the North Hills Country Club when he was just a boy working as a caddie. He rose to the rank of Golf Superintendant at North Hills back in the 1980’s. Upon his return in 2009, he began cleaning up the course including resurfacing the greens with Champion Bermuda. His experience at this course proved very valuable during the re-opening process.

Dawn Darter was hired as Golf Pro in late 2009. She too is a former Sherwood resident. Like Mandel, she started her golf career at North Hills when she was young. She is now a Quarter Century PGA Member. She operates a full service golf shop with a professional staff at your disposal. Merchandise available will include Cleveland, Titleist, Foot Joy, Ping and Bridgestone. Custom club fitting is available. Golf Lessons are also available.

This Greens opened quietly for a trial run in mid May 2010. After some kinks were worked out the Grand Opening was held on May 29, 2010. As of June 28, 2010 there were 4900 rounds played for an average of 106 rounds per day. The revenue generated in that short time from annual fees, green fees, and driving range is approximately $243,000.

In addition to the banquet area upstairs, the down stairs area offers the pro shop and a full service bar and restaurant called Bunker’s Bistro. It is locally owned and operated.
