General Responsibilities Summary
Assists Program Supervisor in planning, organizing, and implementing recreational programs by performing the following duties.
Essential Functions

Plans, Organizes and Implements Recreation Programs: plans, organizes and directs program participants in a variety of classes in music, dance, and dramatic and visual arts for youths to adults; develops and implements creative initiatives to increase opportunities for participation in arts and culture programs and activities; creates, develops, and supports networking opportunities for local artists and volunteer workers; develops, plans, and coordinates various community arts and heritage program events and festivals; monitors equipment condition and maintains inventory of supplies; assists with special events such as Easter Egg hunt, carnivals, and boxing tournaments as necessary; assists Program Supervisor in conducting surveys, program evaluations and assessments and preparing narrative reports; researches and prepares updates on current arts and humanities program resources and interests within the community; develops marketing plans and promotes arts and humanities-focused programs and special events.

Facilitates Activities: issues equipment and supplies to participants; drives participants to various sites for activities; collects data from recreational programs (including numbers, ages of participants, monies received, etc.) for monthly reports; encourage appropriate participant behavior through reinforcement of rules, regulations and ordinances; provides task supervision for Recreation Program Aides, volunteers, and contractors; assists in collection of fees for various recreational programs.

Performs Maintenance/Janitorial Duties: sets up tables, chairs, and other equipment for programs and special events; takes down and sets up activity equipment as required to make the space available for other use; assists with cleaning of recreational facilities such as community centers, tennis courts, pools and amusement park.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent.

18 months experience and/or training in recreational or related activities.

Class D driver’s license and good driving record.

18 years of age or older.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
The supervisor provides continuing or individual assignments by indicating generally what is to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, deadlines, and priority of assignments. The supervisor provides additional, specific instructions for new, difficult, or unusual assignments including suggested work methods or advice on source material available. The employee uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently without specific instruction, but refers deviations, problems, and unfamiliar situations not covered by instructions to the supervisor for decision or help. The supervisor reviews some of the work, with more review of difficult or unfamiliar assignments.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Provides task supervision for Recreation Program Aides, Community Service Workers, volunteers, and contract workers.

COMPLEXITY
The work consists of duties that involve related steps, processes, or methods; the decision regarding what needs to be done involves various choices requiring the employee to recognize the existence of and differences among a few easily recognizable situations; actions to be taken or responses to be made differ in such things as the source of information, the kind of transactions or entries, or other differences of a factual nature.

A number of specific guidelines are available; judgement is used in locating and selecting the most appropriate guidelines; minor deviations can be made in specific cases; significant deviations are referred to the supervisor.
