Primary Accountabilities:
This Parks and Recreation Director is a visionary position responsible for the overall operations of Parks and Recreations, budgets, creating and evaluating programs. The Parks and Recreation Director operates under the supervision of the mayor. The Parks and Recreation Director is also responsible for maintaining operating procedures, evaluating reports and inspections, directing short and long-term planning, and coordinating with other departments and agencies. The Parks Department Director is also responsible for executing the strategic plan and vision for the administration of the City of West Memphis.
Essential Functions:
Plans, organizes, directs, and supervises programs and projects in all divisions.
Identify and execute creative events and ventures for the parks department
Directs short-term and long-term plans for park facilities and recreation programs.
Fundraises for special needs of the park facilities and recreation programs.
Prepares and submits departmental budgets, reports, and policy recommendations.
Evaluates programs and activities through reports and inspections.
Maintains standard operating procedures and maintenance schedules in accordance with program, activity, and equipment requirements.
Conducts and reviews department safety programs.
Enforces city policies, procedures, and park rules for staff, instructors, volunteers, and contracted facility renters.
Implements department safety program.
Responds to and resolves complaints with citizens, public officials, agencies, organizations, and schools.
Coordinates activities with other departments; acts as a liaison with other agencies.
Provides supervision and technical assistance in division services and projects.
Attends meetings as required by the Park Board.
Performs additional duties, as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
Five (5) years of experience in this field.
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of parks and recreation administration and programming.
Ability to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations.
Ability to prepare and manage cost and material estimates and budgets.
Considerable knowledge of community organizations and resources.
Demonstrated ability to direct and supervise activities and personnel.
Ability to utilize the available time to organize and complete work within given deadlines.
Ability to communicate in writing clearly and concisely.
The trait of being dependable and trustworthy.
Ability to be truthful and be credible in the workplace.
