Summary:  The Batesville Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a dedicated and reliable individual for this position. This position will provide the right individual an excellent opportunity to become part of a friendly, team oriented work environment. The Activities Coordinator for the Parks and Recreation Department will have the responsibility for the development, implementation, and administration of Youth and Adult Athletic and Aquatic Programs.  In addition, the Sports Coordinator will assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Recreation Superintendent or Parks and Recreation Director. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:

Responsible for the research, development, coordination, and implementation of Youth and Adult Athletic Programs for the Batesville Parks and Recreation Department.  These programs are to include, but not limited to, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, camps, or fitness classes.

Performs public relations duties such as: recruiting players and coaches, interacting with parents, dealing with problem situations as they arise.

Supervision of volunteers and employees working in the youth sports programs.

Responsible for post-season events such as: Organizing and holding an Awards Ceremony; retrieval of equipment and accounting for lost items; determining needs for the subsequent season; assessing programs and proposing changes necessary for improvement.

Gathers information on the demographics of children and adults that are involved in the programs.

Prepare information and practice plans for coaches, as well as, schedule training workshops to help educate.

Responsible for scheduling of practice times and game times for all facilities.

Determines safety of game and practice sites and schedules maintenance in order to repair damages or unsafe facilities.

Responsible for assigning children to teams according to age.  Must also assign coaches for these teams.

Must conduct background checks on all coaches and referees (for youth programs) to ensure children’s safety.

Education of online software that the department uses for membership management, facility scheduling, and activity registration.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises volunteers and program staff for the Parks and Recreation Adult and Youth Sports Programs and Community Center Attendants.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include: Assisting in the process of interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and / or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or other Sports Related Field; or two years of experience in a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, sponsors, or the administrators of the grants which help to fund the program.  Ability to create presentations and write articles for publication.  Ability to effectively present information to top management and public groups.

Computer Skills:

Ability to enter information, create reports, and locate information in a database.  Enter digital photographs and manipulate them to create flyers and posters.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Current Arkansas Driver’s License

Other Skills and Abilities:  Ability to interface well with citizens, fellow employees, and city officials.  Ability to work effectively in a team environment.  Ability to effectively supervise, plan, organize, and evaluate the work of part-time division staff.  Ability to complete assigned projects with a minimal amount of direct supervision.  Ability to familiarize and adapt to recreation programming trends.  Ability to organize, promote, and implement athletic tournaments and special events.
